About Ander Knutsson

Knutsson’s work transcends abstraction — positioning light as a medium and color as an immersive sensory field. His signature surfaces, handcrafted from blends of beeswax, varnish, oils, and dry-ground pigments, create atmospheric depth and quiet optical shifts that reward sustained looking. In the 1980s, he broke new ground again by introducing luminous pigments, resulting in paintings that don’t just depict light — they emit it. Later, after settling in Brooklyn in 1990, his attention turned toward monumental, enduring trees, capturing their silent strength through acrylic, graphite, and printmaking with botanical reverence.

His exquisite paintings have been coveted by major museums, public institutions, and private collections worldwide, cementing Knutsson as one of the most meaningful and materially inventive painters of his generation. This collection of work is both a celebration of artistic rigor and a testament to curiosity that never dulled with time.
